FAQ

What is Handing

Handing is the term used to describe which direction you install the insulated panels.  This is important as it determines which side of the panel, the side laps are cut.

When standing on the ground, looking towards the ridge,

  • If you start on the right hand side, and place the second Insulated Panel to the left of the first one, that is referred to as Right Handing (R-L). This is the default.

  • If you start on the left hand side, and place the second Insulated Panel to the right of the first one, that is referred to as Left Handing (L-R)

Panels should be laid into the prevailing wind, so that the wind is blowing over the sidelap.

By default, we’ll sent you Right handing panels unless otherwise stated.

Do you supply Garden Rooms or other kit sheds?

We do not supply garden rooms or any other kit buildings. However, we can recommend a number of suppliers who use our products who may be able to assist you directly.

What if I need different lengths of Insulated Panels or trims?

Our panels are cut to 3m, 4m, 5m, 6m, 7m and our flashings are supplied in 3m lengths. If you need different lengths for your project, you can cut the Insulated Panels and flashings to size on site. E.g. if you order 5m insulated panels, you could then order 2 X 3m trims and cut the second one to 2m. There’s some guidance on the equipment required here.

What equipment do I need to have.

To safely carry out a small project, we recommend you have the following equipment.

  • Safety Glasses / other Personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Safety gloves or long sleeves (As the edges can be sharp)
  • Cordless screw driver with suitable Driver socket
  • Circular saw to cut the insulated panel or flashings if necessary
  • Clamps to hold product in place if you’re cutting them
  • Tape measure
  • Spirit level
  • Pencil/marker

Remember to order any accessories such as tape, sealants, fixing screws, stitching screws and ridge filler.

What is the Cut Back on the panels?

When ordering our panels, it is important to understand the Cut Back. When manufacturing our panels, we leave 75mm of steel at one end, to act as a drip and allow rainwater to flow into a gutter or as per your design.

What are the top tips for anyone using Insulated Panels for their roof?

Aside from ensuring you have the required equipment, there are a few tips to make your project so smoothly

  1. Think about how you’re going to place the panels on the roof, Right or Left Handed
  2. Before installing, double check all drawings and details. Confirm the dimensional accuracy and suitability of the supporting structure. Take the time to position the first panel exactly where if needs to be. The rest of the panels will fit easily into place once the first one is correct.
  3. While you can handle shorter panel lengths yourself, having another set of hands to help lift the panels onto the purlins and position them, will certainly make things safer and potentially quicker.
  4. If you need to cut the panels or flashings to suit your space, the old adage is true, measure twice, cut once.
  5. If panel have to be cut, always use a reciprocating saw or circular saw - do not use angle grinders. After cutting, remove swarf from the panel surface and any burrs from the cut edges. Treat any site cut edges that will be left exposed with edge protection lacquer or paint
  6. Ensure the panel supports are straight and level. Any humps, bumps and lumps on the supports will follow through to the installed panels and may impact the air and weather seals.
